Creating a Library Web Tutorial

ASDAL 20th Annual Conference
Andrews University
July 13, 2000

Marge Seifert

The McKee Library Tutorial was created primarily for English Comp students, and is used most often by them, but it can also be used by anyone else who would like an overview of the library. This tutorial has gone through a number of changes since its beginning several years ago. The first generation of the tutorial was a notebook with questions. Students explored the entire library to find the answers. The next step was to put the tutorial on Hyperstudio. There were wonderful graphics with this tutorial, but it was unstable. We then worked on a completely new tutorial using Asymetrix TookBook Assistant. This program has been in use for about a year, and is an improvement over the first two. In order to standardize online classes all over campus, our present tutorial has being incorporated into WebCT. One advantage of WebCT is that the quizzes or exercises can be randomized. Students will begin using this tutorial second semester 2000-01.
